What research and expert insights shaped Calcularis?

In general, the teaching strategies and methods used in Calcularis are based on neuroscientific research. The method used in Calcularis is modeled after the "4-Step Model of Number Development and Developmental Dyscalculia," as described by Shalev and von Aster in their article, "Number Development and Developmental Dyscalculia," published in Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology 49 (2007): 868–873.

This model is an extension of the "Triple Code Model" (TCM) proposed by Dehaene and Cohen (1995, 1997) and Dehaene et al. (2003).

Furthermore, the findings of Brian Butterworth (e.g., Butterworth, B., Varma, S., and Laurillard, D. 2011. "Dyscalculia: From Brain to Education," published in Science 332: 1024) were influential in the development of Calcularis.
