Release 83

Overview

In Release 83, we have introduced a number of improvements to the existing features and the following new feature:

SCORM preview for authors
Setting up course visibility for learners
Setting up results visibility for learners
Editing enrollment settings
Extending time for a running activity
Reports improvements

Authors need a capability to check what SCORMs were uploaded to courses. So, we introduced a new feature for previewing SCORM. Authors or team leads can now preview SCORMs from the SCORM properties page. If the compatibility settings for the screen size and option for showing maximize and minimize buttons are changed, the way how SCORM is shown for preview also changes.

Setting up course visibility for learners

Some courses should become available for learners after completing offline activities or achieving other results which LMS cannot control. In this case, automatic pre-requisites to access a course cannot be set in LMS. For such cases, we added for instructors an option of hiding a course from the catalog. They can manually send links to such courses to learners for self-enrollment when it’s time to provide access to a course.

Setting up results visibility for learners

It is often useful to have control over when the results (for example, scores and grades) are revealed to learners. This is where this new enrollment configuration setting (Results visibility for learners) is particularly helpful.

From now on, instructors can select one of the following three modes to define how and when the scores and grades will be revealed to learners when they complete a course or a program (objective):

Never show. This options hides scores and grades from learners completely.
Show after completion. This option reveals to learners scores and grades immediately after they complete a course or program provided that all assignments have been graded. This results detail mode is default.
Show after date. This option specifies the date and time in the future when scores and grades should be revealed to learners.

This update benefits various institutions, especially those that conduct various certifications and examinations.

Editing enrollment settings

This important update empowers administrators and instructors to modify any parameters in existing enrollments. After new values are set, the learners' access rules to the corresponding courses and programs are updated accordingly.

The following parameters can be changed within a unit—, group— or individual enrollment:

Availability from and Availability to the defines the dates and times of the period within which a particular course or a program (objective) can be started by learners.
Due date that specifies the date and time until which a course or program must be completed.
Results visibility for learner that defines how and when the scores and grades are revealed to learners.
Mandatory that is used to define if a course or program is mandatory for a learner to complete (is displayed in My Courses) or optional (is available in the Catalog of courses for self-enrollment).
Can be retaken that defines whether a particular course or a program can be taken and completed by learners multiple times.

This update makes working with learner enrollments more flexible and convenient.

Extending time for a running activity

We all know of situations when it is necessary to extend the allowed time for an activity (for example, an exam) for the selected learners.

This update allows instructors to extend the allowed duration for an exam or quiz even for cases when it’s already running.

If the duration is set in a quiz, and the due date and time are not defined in an enrollment for the quiz or the duration specified by the due date and time exceed the quiz duration, the duration specified in the quiz is used to control the timing of the exam when it is published as a stand-alone objective.
If the duration of a quiz is longer than the duration specified by the due date and time specified in an enrollment for the quiz, the duration specified by the due date and time takes priority and is used to determine when the exam should be terminated.
If the duration of a quiz is not configured at all, for the proctored exam purposes the default duration is 24 hours. This way, the actual allowed duration of an exam can be conveniently controlled by the due date and time in the enrollment settings.

Reports improvements

We have introduced several improvements to reports:

Now it is possible to export reports to CSV.
Reports with subgroups (per-activity primary report, per-activity report for user in custom reports, grouped reports) can be exported now.
Panes can be frozen to help navigation.
Reports can be shown full-screen to show more data.
Activities not belonging to objectives in per-activity reports for an objective are filtered out. So, number of users enrolled, in progress, finished for the objective and for each activity within this objective meet.

Improvements and fixes

In this release, we fixed the following issues:

Paddings for the preview mode for authors and learners in one-page courses.
Searches in grids, now they are case-insensitive.
Error 500 occurring when the course is opened for review, errors when publishing compositions, errors 404 when opening SCORMs and content libraries.
Errors when opening a course with proctoring enabled.
Incorrect saving of selections in a content library for authors when leaving the page.
Issues that Author Team leads had with the data grids export and column selector in content libraries.
Incorrect processing of the Finish the course link.
Sending notification duplicates (they were semt if a user was a member of several groups and units and was enrolled in or finished a course).
Incorrect formulas rendering in Media Blocks.
Incorrect resetting of filters when adding items from a content library to compositions.
Error with scrolling to select users or groups in enrollments.
