Adding proctored activities to compositions

You can configure individual activities—such as quizzes—in a composition (course) to be proctored. For example, you might embed a proctored exam at the end of your course. Alternatively, you can create a standalone proctored activity, such as a quiz, that is not embedded in the course structure. See Adding proctored exams as stand-alone activities.

To configure an activity in your course to be proctored:

1. In the Learn management portal, click in the upper-left corner.
2. Go to Teaching > Courses.
3. Select the required composition and open for editing.
4. Open the Enrollment tab and enroll learners in the exam.

IMPORTANT: In Term, specify the academic term for the exam to ensure scheduling operates properly.

5. Switch to the Scheduling tab.
6. In the Grace period until column, specify the date until which the exam is available for the enrolled learners.
7. In the Proctoring settings column, click edit  and specify the following settings:

• Enable proctoring — enable the toggle.

IMPORTANT: If an exam composition activity is used in multiple compositions, proctoring will be enabled for all instances of that activity. For all other instances, the Allow review option on the Scheduling tab needs to be set to Never manually.

• Proctoring mode:
  • AI review — the Cyber Proctor AI tool monitors exam sessions for potential rule violations and generates alerts when violations are detected.
  • Live review — a human proctor monitors exam sessions in real-time and can send notifications to learners if any violations are detected.
  • Post-exam review — after the exam, a human proctor reviews each recorded session individually to check for rule violations.

Additional settings

• Second camera — select if learners will need to use an auxiliary camera during the exam.
• Allow multiple displays — select if learners are allowed to use multiple displays, in this case all the displays used will be checked.
• Secure browser — select to enable the Secure Browser feature: Proctor will prohibit opening new tabs or using the Internet or prohibited applications.

Allow to use

• Websites — allows the use of websites during the exam by excluding them from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Books — allows the use of books during the exam by excluding them from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Paper — allows the use of paper during the exam by excluding it from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Messengers — allows the use of messaging apps during the exam by excluding them from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Calculator — allows the use of a calculator during the exam by excluding it from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Excel — allows the use of Microsoft Excel during the exam by excluding it from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Human assistant — allows the presence of a human assistant during the exam by excluding them from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Absence in frame — allows the test-taker to be temporarily out of the camera frame during the exam by excluding this behavior from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Voice — allows speaking or background voices during the exam by excluding them from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
• Wrong gaze direction — allows looking away from the screen during the exam by excluding this behavior from the list of enforced exam prohibitions.
  Calculator mode — specify if using a calculator is allowed during the exam:
  • Off — using calculators is prohibited.
  • Simple — using a simple calculator is allowed.
  • Scientific — using a scientific calculator is allowed.
  
  Additional rules, optional — use this field if you need to add custom rules.
  Show warnings to student — select when to display a warning to learners:
• Extra user in frame — if a third person, not the exam taker, is detected.
• Substitution user — if the exam taker is substituted with a third person.
• No user in frame — if no one is detected in the frame (the exam taker is absent).
• Look away — if the exam taker's gaze may indicate using using prohibited materials (cheat sheets, devices, and so on).
• Change active window on computer — if the exam taker switched the current window where the exam takes place.
• Forbidden device — if the exam taker uses a forbidden device.
• Voice detected — if a third person voice is detected in the room which may indicate the third person presence in the room.
• Phone — if the exam taker uses a phone.

8. Click Save.
