Creating SCORM components

SCORMs are content components created in accordance with Sharable Content Object Reference Model, which is a set of standards for interoperability in online learning.

Before you start adding a SCORM component created in a third-party platform to Constructor Learn, you need to prepare a ZIP archive that contains this component (a course, program, or other piece of learning content).

To create a SCORM component:

  1. In the Learn management portal, click in the upper-left corner.
  2. Go to Authoring > Content libraries. A page with available pre-configured libraries will open.
  3. Click SCORM. A list of existing SCORM components will be displayed.
  4. Click the add icon .
  5. Click Select file and specify the local ZIP file that contains the SCORM component you want to add.
  6. Fill in the following fields and settings:
    • Title— the component title.
    • Unique Code or ID — the identifier of the component to ease the search in the future.
    • Description — a short description of the component.
    • Cover image — either upload an image to use as a cover for this learning component or specify its URL.
    • Status — the current status of the component (Draft if you plan to edit it later or Ready if the composition is ready for publishing):
    • Draft — this is the default status of a component you are working on; compositions can be added to already running courses and their names will be visible to learners.
    • Ready — this is the status of complete components that are available to learners.
    • Expired — this is the status of components (assignments) that have expired due dates.
    • Archived— this is the status of components moved to the archive.

    Settings
    • Supports mobile view — the component content supports rendering on mobile device screens.
    • Supports review after completion — the component allows instructors and learners to review its content and grades after it was submitted and graded.
    • Use progress instead of score — in case the SCORM component does not support reporting scores, select this check box to show the SCORM progress. The SCORM will have the Finished state in Learn with 100% progress if a learner has reached the level in viewing the SCORM when it is considered finished.
    • Show submit button — the Submit button is shown to learners in the SCORM learning component window. This allows learners to submit the results after they pass the SCORM component right from the window.
    • Show close button — the Close button is shown to learners in the SCORM component window. This allows learners to close the SCORM window while retaining their activity progress and return to it at a later time.
    • Window size — the mode of displaying the window with SCORM component in a course:
    • Full screen — to display the SCORM window full screen. In this case, the SCORM window will occupy the full size of the screen when opened, without showing the navigation panel.
    • Embedded (auto size) — to insert the SCORM window into a course content. In this case, the SCORM window will be embedded into the course content window, and the navigation panel will be shown.
      Select the Allow maximize/minimize checkbox to enable for learners the options of maximizing and minimizing the SCORM window. Learners can move the maximizing and minimizing button.

      Note: | If you intend to insert the SCORM component into a composition, select the Embedded (auto size) value.

    • Custom size — to manually set the required width and height of the SCORM window. Values for both dimensions are required.
  7. Click Save. The SCORM component will be added to the library and can be used for inserting into courses or programs or for creating separate courses entirely consisting of this component.
