Creating learner assignment components

You can create assignment content components for tasks that are assigned to either individual learners or groups for collaborative work. These assignments typically require detailed responses in a flexible format, such as essays, reports, projects, or multimedia presentations. They are graded manually, and for group assignments, all learners share the same grade.

The content components for assignments are stored in the respective content library, Assignments.

To create an assignment content component:

  1. In the Learn management portal, click in the upper-left corner.
  2. Go to Authoring > Content libraries. A page with available pre-configured libraries will open.
  3. Click Assignments.
  4. Click the plus sign .
  5. In the Title field, specify the assignment component title and click Create.
  6. Specify the following parameters:
    • In the Instructions field, enter the instructions for the task. Be sure to mention that a learner's response can include various multimedia elements, such as text descriptions, attached files, images, links, and formulas.

    Settings:
    • Domain — the domain of knowledge to which the assignment belongs.
    • Topics — the topics which the assignment covers.
    • Anti-plagiarism check — if switched on, this toggle enables instructors and learners to use Turnitin plagiarism check.
    • In the Rubric section, click the plus sign to add a rubric-based AI grading for the assignment.

    The data will be saved.

Now, to enable learner enrollment in this assignment, it's necessary to:

  1. Add this assignment content component as a composition with its status set to Ready.
  2. Publish the composition.
  3. Enroll learners in the assignment through the Objectives menu of the instructor interface.
  4. In case the assignment is collaborative, it should be set by the learner group instructor through the Objectives menu.
