Creating STEM components
STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) components typically contain a lot of formulas and are in the HTML format. A STEM component can be used either as a stand-alone course or as a component included into a composition.
STEM components are created through a special wizard. To add a STEM component:
- In the LMS management portal, click
in the upper-left corner.
- Go to **Authoring >**Content libraries. A page with available pre-configured libraries will open.
- Click STEM. A list of existing STEM components will be displayed.
- Click the add icon
.
- Fill in the following fields:
- Course name — name of the course or the article for including into course compositions (depending on whether the STEM component will be used as a course by itself or as part of a course).
- Article — insert into the field under this heading the theoretical contents from a preliminary prepared HTML file.
| Information | Place to the Article field only the theory and examples, all questions and problems are added separately. See Adding quizzes to STEM components. |
- Tutor guidelines — specify some advice for instructors on how to teach this knowledge component and how to assess learners' work.
- Min instructor bonus — minimum bonus scores that instructors can add for this STEM assignment to learners' grade.
- Max instructor bonus — maximum bonus scores that instructors can add for this STEM assignment to learners' grade.
| Information | All these fields must be filled in, otherwise, you won't be able to save the changes. |
- Click Save. The default grading scale configured by the system administrator will be automatically added to the component.
- If necessary, add to the created component attachments, images, and quizzes. See:
- Adding attachments to STEM components

- Preview the component to ensure that everything is neat and displays properly to learners. To do so, log in to the learner interface under a separate test user.
